Welcome to...

So, writing this in mid-October we're SEVEN months into the Covid-19 outbreak. Beside the terrible personal tragedies of 2020 many have lost their jobs, many more are working from home and, crucially, our music venues remain closed or tentatively open with hugely reduced audience sizes.
It sometimes feels a bit like we'll never go out
and 'be normal' again.
But we will, and one day we'll look back on what will seem a surreal and distant former life.
Until such a time we must needs make our own amusement and enjoy the delights on offer in cyber world.
¡Tropica! DJs are, of course, mostly house-bound like much of the population at the moment, but that doesn't mean we can't find ways to share our love of global music.
Check out our Global Jukebox below - it's just been updated with more than thirty great new tunes and recent archive reissues from the world around.
Look out in the near future for some great new dance mixes from our DJ's, we'll post news of them on here and keep you up-to-date with news of this and any other activities we're involved in. As it stands, today, 15th October, York has been escalated to a Tier 2 status meaning the restrictions on our movements will be even more stringent for the time being.
Don't forget that ¡Tropica! DJs are also to be heard every week on Jorvik Radio 94.8FM, with a clutch of great shows every Monday and Tuesday from 8pm featuring Miles Nixon, Lu Mason, Harry Rook and DrummieDave.
YES! We miss getting out & about with our sounds as much as you so let's enjoy what we can in the current situation. We can do justice to the huge amount of great new music which is flowing from the fingers of tethered talents across the globe, aided by the technology which allows musicians to record together whilst on different continents.
Celebrate life, celebrate family and as soon as we can we'll all get out and celebrate properly! Until then I hope we can be a little light in the darkness.
Love ¡Tropica! Crew xxx

On the weekend of 24th/25th October the Whitby Musicport Festival, normally a live event held in The Pavilion, a fantastic clifftop location on the town's West Cliff, is this year being held as an online event featuring live performances and DJs from a studio location in Hull.
One of the weekend's big attractions will be a live show from Whitby Brewery, sat up on the hill above Whitby behind the ruined Abbey, featuring Eliza Carthy and her equally famous dad Martin Carthy.
Announcements of the full line-up are still forthcoming but we'll try to keep you posted here when new announcements are made.
For that purpose we have a page dedicated to the Whitby Musicport Festival, which can be accessed hitting the link below this page's title, which features music, photos, video links and news of the performance times for the Online Festival Weekend.
On Monday 19th October there was a 2-hour Special Edition broadcast of Compass Points with Drummie Dave on Jorvik Radio 94.8FM. This took the form of a fascinating in-depth look into the festival, its music and people. If you missed it, the entire programme is now available on the Jorvik Radio Listen Again feature for four weeks from broadcast date, after which time it will be archived here.
